ATTACHMENT DISORDER SYMPTOMS IN CHILDREN

Reactive attachment disorder can develop when a child fails to receive adequate comfort and nurturing from caregivers. It is grouped under " TRAUMA-AND-STRESSOR RELATED DISORDERS. "

An essential feature is that the child exhibits an absent or grossly underdeveloped level of attachment towards caregiving adults compared to what is normal or expected. For example, An infant or very young child would be observed as rarely or minimally turning to their adult caregivers for comfort, support, protection, or nurturance.

Children with reactive attachment disorder are believed to have the capacity to form selective attachments; that can explain child's failure to form a secure relationship with parents or other caregivers.

    # They handle their emotions independently.
    # Do not look for or reach for caregivers for support, nurturance, or protection.
    # Lack a preferred attachment figure.
    # Lack an interest in playing interactive games.
    # Will not ask questions.
    # Will not respond reciprocally. For example; if a parent were to go to comfort their child when he/she is distressed, the child may appear confused, aloof, or fail to hug the adult back. The child may fail to reach out when picked up.

Essentially, the child has not learned to accept or expect a comforting response. As such they may show absent expression of positive emotions during routine interactions with caregivers (e.g., fail to smile). They may have difficulty regulating distressing emotions, resulting in their displaying pervasive patterns of negative emotions, such as, fear, sadness, or irritability in instances in which it is uncalled for.

A diagnosis of reactive attachment disorder should not be made in children who are developmentally unable to form selective attachments. For this reason, the child must have a developmental age of at least 9 months.

THE WAY TO ENCOURAGE SELF-MOTIVATION IN YOUR CHILD

Self-motivation is a trait that is often underrated. It's more than just getting out of bed in the morning; it can have a huge impact on how well your child does in school.
Children are naturally motivated to learn until they're about 7 years old. After this time, they'll need the ability to motivate themselves, a vital skill if they are to succeed.

HERE ARE SOME WAYS YOU CAN HELP :

  Encourage Optimism :
Focus on SOLUTIONS to problems rather than dwelling on setbacks, combined with having a positive outlook on life. This will encourage your child to adopt the same approach.

  Encourage Persistence :
Reward effort rather than just success. You will help your child to develop the resilience ( the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties ) they'll need to face failure and to keep trying until they do succeed.

  Deal with Failure :
Teach your child to accept that sometimes they will failure. Showing them how to lose or win gracefully, will give them the ability to deal with, and move on from, setbacks later in life.

  Encourage Interests :
Children who have a range of interests will be exposed to different opportunities. Combined with a good work-life balance, this will make the less-interesting task they face less demoralizing and easier to face.

  Celebrate Achievement :
Knowing how to celebrate and enjoy success, both their own and other's, will give your child something positive to aim for.

  Make Success Possible :
Successful and experience the positive emotions that go with it. Supporting and guiding them will help build the self-esteem that is vital to self-motivation.

  Foster Their Interest :
Encouraging a child to learn about things that interest them will allow them to better understand the concepts they learn at school, especially if you are creative about the way you link their interest to learning.

Adapt To Their Learning Style :
Some children will sit and listen to new information. Others want to pick things up and use them straight away. Adapting to their preferred way of learning will keep learning fun and not a chore.

* Parents want to help improve their child's chance of success at school, and later, as adults. By starting early and encouraging your child in the right way, you can help them for the rest of their lives.*

You may need to use simple words and phrases like; arrange, rearrange, combine, design, compose, create, make, etc.
When you ask questions containing these simple words, your child will start thinking to combine all the clues to form a clear pattern.

SELF-CONFIDENCE ( NEVER LET YOURSELF DOWN )

There will come a time when people would put you down.
People would judge you. Those who hardly know you. And those whom you thought knew you well.
You will look for comfort but you will find none. You will wander the streets weeping but not a friend will be in sight.

    * NEVER LET YOURSELF DOWN. TAKE HEART, FOR NO MATTER HOW AWFUL THE ACCUSATIONS AGAINST YOU ARE, YOU ARE STILL A CHILD OF GOD. *

This is the time when your love for yourself will be tested.
Whether you will believe what others say about you, or whether you will stand your ground because you know yourself best.
Take comfort knowing that you are never alone.

    * GOD still believes in you, you know. GOD loves you and sees in you the person everybody else failed to see.
Don't fail to see that person . Never let yourself down. *

LOOK AT ME ! SEE HOW MUCH GOD'S POWER IS TO BE MADE MANIFEST !

               This is my moment !
                  This is my now,
                     I live in it,
                       I move,
                       I sing,
                       I dance.
                     This is life,
                  This is forever-
The rain now pouring over me
Will never be the same again,
                    So I cry
                    I hope
I laugh like a little child.
I look at the sunrise as though it is my first,
As though it will be my last,
                   I pray
                  I smile
                  I love !
       I taste the fresh air
As though an angle gave it to me.
               I  am here,
               I am loved,
               I am seen.
       This is my moment,
   This is the very moment
              I BELIEVE !

CRITICISM THAT HURT ( THREE THINGS ABOUT CRITICISMS THAT HURT US DEEPLY)

Words are powerful. They could lift us up towards healing, or they could wound uslike sharp swords that pierce our hearts.
Which words have such a painful effect upon us and that leaves us feeling worthless and shattered after hearing them? Which people have the power to utter those words that often leave us broken and defeated ?

THEIR ARE THREE THINGS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO CRITICISMS THAT HURT US DEEPLY .......

1- THE CRITICISM THAT TOUCHES A WOUND :
Words that are totally untrue rearly have the power to hurt us. We hurt because we felt some truth to the criticisms hurted against us. Such criticism may not be totally true, but they may point towards a truth we've always wanted to hide or to some related weakness that we haven't been able to address so far.
Note that some of these weakness may not even exist in reality, but if we perceive them to exist or go matter go us the wounds exist, and they hurt whenever they are touched.
For example; we may think we're not good looking enough and words said about our appearance trigger some feelings of insecurity. In truth, we may not really lookthat bad, but when we believe that we've not attractive, we'd always feel attacked whenever somebody tries to make fun of our appearance.

2- THE CRITICISM THAT COMES FROM A PERSON VALUABLE TO US :
It is the people who are closest to us whom we count on the most. We expect them to protect us, to defend us from people who may look down on us, and to guard the vulnerabilities we have revealed to them.
Once the start criticizing us, we immediately feel the intensity of the impact of their words. We may feel like we're being attacked by those whom we trusted with our greatest secrets, including the weakness we have hidden from everyone else.
Weren't they supposed to be the ones who would understand us to most ? Weren't they the ones who should believe in us despite the imperfections that they are in us?

3- THE CRITICISM THAT COMES FROM SOMEONE CREDIBLE :
Criticism have a greater impact when uttered by those use deem as credible in the area where we are being criticized.
For example; If we are joining a signing contest, it is the judge who also happens to be a great singer, who has the power go affect us with her words of praise or disapproval regarding our singing ability.
They may not be always right, but since we have already given them our belief in their particular area of expertise, we easily consider their words as true.

Once all three factors exist at the same time, the more will be out hurt and our difficulty in trying to move on from said criticisms.
For example; may be we feel insecy about our intelligence, and we have been criticized as being stupid and shallow. What we make it worse is when that criticism came from a person we love, such as a life partner, and more so if that person is one whom we consider as possessing a high degree of intelligence.

IN SUCH INSTANCES, HOW DO WE DEAL WITH THE CRITICISM THAT DEEPLY HURT OIR SELF-ESTEEM ?

1- FIND HEALING FOR OUR WOUNDS :
Hurt caused by criticisms may be opportunities for us to discover the wounds we have. This in turn may give us the chance to heal and to be more at peace with who we are.

2- SEE THE INTENTION OF THE PERSON CRITICIZING US :
If the person criticizing us is someone we love, let us try to look at their intentions for doing so. In truth, they may only want us to improve so we can have better lives and because they really care about us.
If however, we find out that the people criticizing us have all the wrong intentions, such as really feeling envious and desire only to put us down, then we can learn to protect ourselves from them and not let their words affect our self worth.

  3- KNOW THAT NOBODY'S PERFECT :

PERSONALITY ( WHY ARE WE SO DIFFERENT ? )

Personality psychology is concerned with enduring patterns of behavior, thought, and emotion commonly referred to as personality in individuals.
According to Freud, personality is based on the dynamic interactions of the ID, EGO, and SUPER- EGO. Raymond Cattel proposed a theory of 16 personality factors.

     JUNGIAN PERSONALITY TYPOLOGY

Jungian personality typologies, which draw on the theories developed by Carl Gustav Jung (1875- 1916) , a Swiss psychologist and psychiatrist and a pioneer of the depth psychology approach. He developed a concept which is highly familiar to us today: the division of people into extroverts and introverts. In addition, he distinguished four personality functions, which form two opposing pairs: SENSING - INTUITION and THINKING - FEELING. He also established that one function is dominant in each pair. He became convinced that each and every person's dominant functions are fixed and independent of external conditions and that, together, what they form is a personality type.
By Jung, the three dimensions described, namely, EXTRAVERSION - INTROVERSION, SENSING - INTUITION, AND THINKING - FEELING. In 1942 American , psychologist, three dimensional model to include a fourth : JUDGING - PERCEIVING. A four dimensional path, terming those dimensions the FOUR NATURAL INCLINATIONS.
These inclinations are dichotomous in nature and the picture they provide gives us information regarding a person's personality type. Analysis of the first inclination is intended to determine the dominant SOURCE OF LIFE ENERGY, this being either the exterior or the interior world. Analysis of the second inclination defines the DOMINANT MODE OF ASSIMILATING INFORMATION, which occurs via the senses or via intuition. Analysis of the third inclination supplies a description of the DECISION MAKING MODE, where either mind or heart is dominant, while analysis of the fourth inclination produces a definitions of the dominant LIFESTYLE as either organised or spontaneous. The combination of all these natural inclinations results in SIXTEEN POSSIBLE PERSONALITY TYPES.

HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN THE GIFT OF WHO YOU ARE ?

    WE ALL ARE GOD GIFTS

Think about our relationship with God. God gives us many things- food to eat, clothes to wear, friends to talk to, activities to enjoy, dreams to achieve, missions to accomplish. Even if we could have His gifts, our happiness wouldn't be complete without His very Presence, the Gift of Himself.

TO LOOK USING GOD's OWN EYES

  I pray I could learn
  To look at people,
The way God sees each one of us-
To be able to forego the little mistakes,
May be even the big ones
To be able to see weaknesses
  Turned into strength
  To know something hurting
And yet know that the hurt
  Would be healed in time
  To look beyond judgment
To see with an understanding heart
  To see what's beautiful
  To appreciate what's good
  To not measure anybody's destiny
  With their present plight
But to see real hope for everyone
  The way God see us
  To know that those imprisoned
Have one who will set them free
  To see how the poor
Will one day bask in God's abundance
  To see the broken hearted
  In days when God himself
Will cradle them upon His lap
To be able to see with God's own eyes
  Is to see with gladness,
  With hope,
  And with love so strong
It could never ever fall !

      I urge you to know
      Who you really are;
      In your eyes,
      In your heart.
      Know thyself,
      Especially your strength.
      Know that which is
      Beautiful.
      Know that which is
      Loveable.
Know that which has made you
      The unique and wonderful
      Person that you are !
